Israel Arrests, Deports Outspoken Academic and Human Rights Advocate Norman Finkelstein
American academic and son of Holocaust survivors Norman Finkelstein was arrested and detained at Ben Gurion Airport today. He has been labeled a “security threat” by the Israeli government and deported. He was told he will be banned from Israel for ten years.
Finkelstein, a retired teacher/librarian, academic witch-hunt victim, civil rights historian and a prolific writer, is known one of the most prominent critics of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. Finklestein had intended to visit the occupied territories before he was detained. Apparently knowledge and political dissent are very, very VERY dangerous things in Israel. Can’t be too careful . . . He might (gasp) SAY SOMETHING and the space-time continuum will be torn asunder! Arrest that man!
Way to go, “the Middle East’s Only Democracy.”
